Welcome!

Hi everyone, and welcome to this experiment!

After many years living and working in the Silicon Valley my family and I relocated to Long Island, NY in 2009. Yes, it is a big change. A change that can either literally freeze your heart or transform your soul. During this process of change I have shelter myself into sharing more quality time with my family, reading, going back to college, and cooking. I love food. Not just for the mere reason of eating it,but because I find fascinating the way in wich flavors and textures are combined to form a piece of art. Art that bring people together and feeds the heart as it feeds your stomach.
In this blog you will enjoy the puertorrican flavors added to different meals you may already know. In addition I will share some traditional recipes with my own touch. And will ask my mom permision to share some of hers.
Flavors from Puerto Rico are vibrant and that's what we all need to spark a meal and enjoy it. Sharing this fantastic art with family and friends is a way to open a window to my Caribbean culture.
Open the window and let the sun in! It's time to cook something you'll love to eat!

Jr's BURGER

Ok here I am again! This week with a recipe that is ultra simple perfect for spring and summer cook outs. I tried it last week with friends and family and it was APPROVED by everyone. Jr's SPRING BURGER idea came from watching a random TV show. In the show this greek cook prepared a burger with some greek spices. He placed the burgers on the grill and they got burned. In addition he never mention specific quantities for any of the ingredients he was using. So I modified it a lot. The final product is really good.
Jr's SPRING BURGER
Ingredients (6 PORTIONS):
-3 lbs organic ground beef.
-4 garlic cloves smashed
-1 chopped shallot or yellow onion.
-1 cup chopped mexican cilantrillo
-1TSP oregano
-1/4 cup olive oil
-1tsp salt
- black pepper to taste (optional)
-1TSP lemon juice
-Feta cheese
-French baguette
Procedure
1. Wash the meat with lemon. Set aside.
2. In a mortar smash the garlic, then add the oregano, salt, shallot, and cilantrillo. Mix well.
3. Add olive oil to the mix in the mortar and stir for about 1 minute.
4. In a big bowl mix well the sauce with the ground beef. Let it rest for a few minutes.
5. Prepare the patties. Take a handfull of beef. Put it on a flat surface give it the shape of a container. In the center place aproximately one ounce of Feta cheese. Then cover the cheese with the beef. The Feta is like a filler inside the burger.
6. Put it on the hot grill and cook.
7. Warm up the bread on the grill.
8. Serve the burger on the bread. Top it off with fresh lettuce, tomato, and red onions.
BUEN PROVECHO!
